# 5183
Lower and upper dies of a duit 1711 (CNM 2.44.20, PW 5110) - The lower die with a crowned city coat of arms, 170 mm long and maximum 60 mm in diameter, 1203.80 grams, with on the side a square punch 'cloverleaf' (probably the sign of the 'stempelsmid') - the upper die STAD UTRECHT 1711, 46x28 mm 254.55 grams, the upper side mushroom-shaped deformed by use, to a maximum of 44 mm - some corrosion but everything clearly legible - extremely rare and a beautiful illustration for a coin collection - NB In the 1870s a number of old coin dies were discovered in the Utrecht city hall, the vast majority of which ended up in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum van Oudheden (now the Centraal Museum) and 's Rijks Munt (now in NNM). As far as is known, no examples have ever been offered for auction.
