WWII, Large selection of 120 original photos regarding the US Army "ALSOS Mission", which was part of the "Manhattan Project", the mission was an organized effort by a team of British and United States military, scientific, and intelligence personnel to discover enemy scientific developments during World War II, a bit like the famous "Monuments men", they followed close behind the front lines in Italy, France, and Germany, occasionally crossing into enemy-held territory to secure valuable resources before they could be destroyed or scientists escape or fall into rival hands, the photos show, various places they visited in Germany and Austria, with factories, HQ's, the city center of Cologne, Paris, and the highlights a lot of pictures of German fighter jets and experimental aircraft, like the ME-262, Bachem BA-349 Natter, Heinkel HE-280, Gliders, Mistel, including various duplicates, the photos have writing on the back, with place, date and names, all unpublished, also including in the lot two letters from the ALSOS Mission HQ in New York adressed to "Russel G. Robinson (1908-2003)", regarding his return at the end of the mission, all this came from his estate, he later became one of the founding figures of NASA, the US space agency, very rare and interesting lot from a mostly unknown mission during the war
