A rare and large Chinese porcelain plate decorated in underglaze blue with a central scene of Bacchus holding a goblet and standing in an interior with a table, tiled floor and a pane window, all encircled by swirling grapevines, moulded and gadrooned rim. This plate is almost certainly made after an unidentified engraving and for the Dutch market. Literature: an identical plate in the Hodroff Collection, see David S. Both books suggest the possibility of this being a tray for carry goblets, however, as the center of the plate is not level but shallow in the central section of Bacchus, this theory seems highly unlikely.
