1 Cent 1941 (Sch. 1045a RRRR / LSch.918 R4) - Pattern with center hole. Obv. cross with two birds. Rev. denomination 1 ct, ears of wheat with three wavy lines, date on scroll. Coarse reeded edge. After the minting had begun and the combined mintage of the Cent, 2 1/2 Cents and 10 Cents totalled 53 million pieces, the designs were rejected by the German occupying forces. The center hole and the little birds on the Cent were considered “Kitsch''. The entire mintage was melted down and replaced by the well-known designs with four continuous wavy lines in the center.
