A set of 12 Chinese blue and white plates decorated to the centre with a scene of two robed scholars with fans meeting beside a lake with a young attendant carrying a lantern, a willow overhead, rockwork in the foreground and pagoda in the distance, the cavetto with four cartouches containing beribboned scholarly objects against a diaper ground, the rim with a scrolling garland of peony, chrysanthemum and lily, China, Qianlong period (1736-1795). Quite rare to find a set of 12! -D. 23 cm, a few with rim frits, one with a hairline crack to the centre-
