Archer Type, AV dinara, 9.51 g, 20.0 mm, specific gravity 15.11. Obv.: Tall, broad-shouldered king in flexed stance, armed with tall bow and arrow, next to tall Garuḍa banner. He wears tailed tunic over pleated loin cloth. Curving, stacked curls support a rim diadem. Truncated sections of circular legend, which Gerald Browne (1993-1994) suggested to read apratigha jayati patir vijayī narasiṅhagup[to’yam], ‘Not to be vanquished, the victorious lord, this Narasiṃhagupta, conquers’. The first four letters on this coin could support reading ap(r)atagha, with the king’s fingers blocking tails of letters; nara as name beneath the left arm, with tiny crescent mark ‘glued’ on top; a letter-like sign gre between feet / Rev.: Nimbate, narrow-waisted Śrī sits with folded legs on lotus. Rolls of hair cover the sides of the head from top knot to ear studs. She wears heavy-ribbed hip cloth; in right hand a prominent, twice-coiled fillet; left hand on knee holds stalk of large, demi-circular lotus with sharp-tipped petals. An uncommon tamga at top left (but one typical for this design); opposite (v/b)ālādityaḥ, ‘The Young Sun’. Done in a style that combines curvaceous shapes with emphatic attenuation. (Kumar 2017/2024: Var. II.A, for coins with epithet śrīvālādityaḥ, attrib. to Narasiṃhagupta I. However, the epithet on his coin #918 (2024) is also vālādityaḥ, just as on the present coin; Raven frthcmg: NSG/Group 2, Var. 2, Fr.108) - XF, rather rare among such coins, in particular for Śrī’s hairstyle; with excellent detailing. Struck on wide flan
