Archer Type, AV dinara, 8.08 g, 20 mm, specific gravity 14.45. Obv.: Tall, elegant king with bow and arrow, next to Garuḍa banner. He wears tailed tunic over loin cloth. Prominent facial features and large curls. Circular legend in small, angular letters from I o’clock, jayati mahītalaṃ śrīkumāraguptaḥ sudhanvī, ‘The excellent archer, [the noble] Kumāragupta, conquers the earth’. Name as ku for Kumāragupta beneath left arm / Rev.: Śrī seated on lotus. She wears hip cloth, scatters coins or treasures, and holds lotus; a śrīvatsa lucky sign in left field; opposite śrīmahendraḥ. Showing Śrī on Archer coins scattering treasures became more popular under Kumāragupta I but did not replace the earlier iconography with the fillet. Adding a śrīvatsa also became more fashionable.
