2½ Cent 1941 (Sch. 1044 RRRR / LSch.873d R4) Pattern with center hole. Obv. Frisian 'Ûleboerd' , the two swans with contour lines. Rev. denomination 2 1/2 ct, ears of wheat with three wavy lines, date on scroll. Plain edge. After the minting had begun and the combined mintage of the Cent, 2 1/2 Cents and 10 Cents totalled 53 million pieces, the designs were rejected by the German occupying forces. The center hole of the 2 1/2 Cent was deemed “Kitsch''. The entire mintage was melted down and replaced by the well-known designs with four continuous wavy lines in the center.
