AV Ducat 1759 Zeeland with c/m 'Java' (Ref.: Scho. 438g; Passon 19.4; Fr.7) - 3.46 gram - VF+ -In 1753 it was resolved that 11,450 milled Ducats, struck at the various provincial mints in the Netherlands, which had just arrived at Batavia for local use be counterstamped with the word ‘Djawa’ in Arabic characters, to the left of the knight. The rating was Fl.6:12:-., while the Ducats not thus stamped circulated at Fl.6:-:- to prevent export and import by private individuals. From the Placard of 8 January 1760 it appears that Ducats with a false countermark had also been brought in circulation. By order of the home authorities of the Company the stamping of the Ducats was stopped in 1761. Extremely rare with an original countermark, ex collection Vinkenborg
