Japan, 18th century/ WWII, Japanese military (gunto) sword, the Edo-period blade of nagamaki-noashi shape with suguha, o-kissaki and mitsu-mune, the hada (skin) not visible, the o-suriage nakago (shortened tang) signed ‘Kanemitsu’ and three pin-holes (mekugi-ana), the gunto mounting with a leather covered saya (scabbard) and a hilt with silk binding over ray skin, the sword is accompanied by a card in both English and Japanese, saying this sword once belonged to: "Lt. Suetomi Kanji of the 4th aerial conduct land service corps" (translation of the Japanese kanji: 4th aerial survey corps) and dating the blade to 1780, Blade length: 64.2 cm (tang not included!) overall length: 100 cm
