Japan, WWII, Japanese military (gunto) sword from the Showa period (1926-1989), the blade of shinogi-zukuri with suguha, chu-kissaki and iori-mune, the hada (skin) not visible, the ubu nakago with one mekugi-ana ending in kuri-jiri, signed ‘Koa Isshin mantetsu saku kore’ (made of Manchurian iron by Koa Isshin) and dated ‘Showa kanoto-mi haru’ (spring of Showa 18 = 1943), the gunto mounting with an iron saya (scabbard) and a hilt with brown silk binding over ray skin, blade length: 66 cm (tang not included!), overall length: 100 cm
