A large Fang-Ngumba figure Gabon H 78 cm incl. feathers. During the 19th century, the Ngumba produced ancestral statuary of very recognizable characteristics: generally elongated proportions; a lengthened cylindrical body; a large spherical head and stocky, short legs. The rather sinuous arms are held away from the body, showing defined musculature. Several distinct details are typical: streamlined, well-shaped shoulders; a protruding cylindrical naval tendon subjects with the use of brass attachments in the eyes, on the face and body, or as overlaid ornament (especially bracelets). The facial features are well-defined under a large domed forehead. Other characteristics include a concave face, with large circular or diamond-shaped eyes; a forward-projecting mouth, oval or rectangular, with pursed lips (sometimes in an almost tubular shape), opening to reveal teeth filed to points; and a short rectangular beard adorning the chin of the male figures. Based upon the provenances documented in the records of several German museums, were collected among Ngumba, Bane and sometimes Bulu populations of southwestern Cameroon, south of Sanaga and Nyong, especially in the area of Lolodorf (valley of Lokoundjé).” CF See "Fang" by Perrois 2006: pls. 8-11) From the Lindler collection, Munich

An exceptional large Aztec figure in green jadeite stone, Teotihuacan Mesoamerica H 37 cm - Teotihuacan was developed around the great pyramids representing the Sun and the Moon. The city's urban development was stellar, from rigorous planning of ceremonial centers to the irrigation systems, the residential quarters, public markets, areas designated for the Mesoamerican ballgame, administrative buildings, and much more. Teotihuacan culture also distinguished itself through its painted murals, presenting local religious concepts and thought processes. Often, these murals depicted the god of water and rain, the quetzal bird, mythological animals, and deities. The city collapsed following natural disasters, population decline, and possibly warfare and internal unrest in the seventh century. The culture of Teotihuacan significantly impacted future Mesoamerican civilizations. Today, it is one of the most notable archaeological attractions and important excavation sites in Mexico. A large ancient Pre Columbian Olmec green stone figurine. A standing figure in a simple pose with straight legs and arms straight down. The bald flat topped head and elongated ears with almond shaped eyes and downturned lips were very characteristic of the stone figurines of the Olmec civilization. Comes with a stand. A very large Taino "zemí" figure from fine-grained sandstone, Dominican Republic. This was likely used as a stand in ceremonies performed at prescribed times throughout the year involving a drug known as cohoba. Spanish accounts describe how zemí figures were used as stands, reliquaries, or personal adornment. A large Nok sculpture of a seated woman , maternity, Nigeria, Jos plateau h 70 c, in terracotta. Although every Nok head is unique, certain stylistic traits are found throughout the corpus of known work. Triangular eyes and perforated pupils, noses, mouths, and ears combine to depict men and women with bold, abstracted features. Perhaps the most striking aspects of Nok sculptures are the elaborately detailed hairstyles and jewellery that adorn many of the figures. A large jadeite Olmec mask H 18 cm. This mask was not made to be worn on the face, at least not by the living. Unlike the earlobes, which feature small holes, neither the eyes nor the mouth have been perforated for sight or breath. Holes along the edges of the mask, however, hint at its ritual usage.
