AR large fanam of 6 stivers (1.44 g.), ND (c. 1675). Obv.: A human figure resembling Kali. On the breast a Shanka shell with cluster of 4 dots to right / rev.: a lazy J, with O C (Oostindische Companie) above and 2, resp 3 rows of 4 dots. The large fanam of 6 stivers, struck at Negapatnam, was intended for export to Ceylon, Cochin and the Pearl Fishery (Tuticorin). Single Fanams of the same type appear to have been struck only for Cochin and were known as Puttans. Two die-varieties, attractive gVF. Ref.: Scho. 1234; Passon 44.8
