Lot 8416

State of Yue, 475-220 B.C., A large and medium size halberd. These halberds were found at the location of the state of Yue in present-day Zhejiang. Since most battles involving this kingdom were staged on water, these dagger axes became the standard weaponry used on ships. The possibility that they were also used as a currency of the state of Yue has been put forward. More likely they may have been used as burial gift. A set of 6 miniature halberds of very light weight has been added which have been excavated since 1986 at Shaoxing City.
