Uniface tin/lead bag seal / bale seal (11.41 g.). ND (c. 1707-1858). Obv. Within a beaded circle, the balemark of the United East India Company “VEIC” / rev. blank with vertical line. It’s unlikely that it is a trial piece for a ‘one cent’ as suggested by Saran Singh, but bag seal for cloth. These seals were authenticating merchants marks on bolts or bales of cloth, being folded and clamped round a visible outer edge. A very well preserved and attractive specimen.
