AR Penny nd., Last Small Cross type, London mint, moneyer Carig, struck ca. 1009-1017 (S.1154A, cf. North 777/780) - Obv: + ÆDELRÆD REX ΛNGL; Diademed bust right / Rev: + CARIG MΩO LVNDEN; Short cross patteé - silver 1.30 g. ca. 18.8 mm - VF/XF, extremely rare bust right variety which normally only occurs with Pennies of Aethelred II struck in Canterbury, Dover and Thetford, also the moneyer Carig, although described in the North catalogue and a thesis by Veronica J. Smart (1981), was for us not to be found in auction results – extremely rare as such
