Batavia, AR 1 stiver of Zeeland (1.12 g.), dated 1683, Obv. “swimming lion” (the crest of the province) / rev. Inscription: ZEE / LAN / DIA / 1683. On obverse countermark of a small demi-lion to left arising from waves, which was applied according to an announcement on May 16, 1687 that the genuine stivers of Zeeland should be stamped with a small impression of the lion of Zeeland similar to the lion on the obverse.
