Zilveren Rijder or Dukaton 1721 struck in gold (Delm. 788 / CNM 2.28.84 / HPM Ho45.5 / Cf. V. 42.1 / Vanhoudt & Saunders 1241 R2) 32.86 g. – Obv. Knight on horseback with raised sword to right, crowned provincial coat-of-arms below. MO: NO: ARG: CON - FOE: BELG: PRO: HOL. small coat-of-arms of Dordrecht. Rev. crowned coat-of-arms supported by two lions, date below. CONCORDIA - RES PARVAE - CRESCUNT. Plain edge. Although Delmonte rates the rarity as RR, it is in fact much scarcer: we currently know of only two other specimens in private hands. NGC PROOF Details, rim damage (cert. # 6647501-001). These Silver Riders or Ducatons struck in gold are highly elusive, particularly in finer surviving states, and likely served as presentation pieces to important officials, thus indicating that their value and importance was well-recognized by owners even in contemporary times. A truly marvelous specimen, this offering appears fully destined for a high-end collection of Dutch numismatics or 18th-century gold collectors.
