1589 - Jeton 'Aanslag op Nijmegen door Maarten Schenk' by Johan Gijsbert de Jonge (Dugn.3250, vOrden980, De Voogt p.82 pl.VIII-6) - Obv: Bust Philips II right / Rev: Soldiers at a redoubt in front of a walled city - copper 28 mm - aVF - NB De Voogt and Dugniolle speak neutrally about 'a besieged city', De Voogt calls it 'probably Nijmegen'. The depicted part of the wall is strongly reminiscent of the Sint Antonispoort and its surroundings; the redoubt in the foreground may be the Schenkenschans from where Maarten Schenk tried to take the city on August 10, 1589
