VOC-period tin medal or token (31.41 g.). (ZENO 329952) Within inner circle: Palm tree in centre and a prominent O to left. Around: IAVANEN - 1730 / rev.: blank. Purpose of this token is still unknown. Suggestions have been made to be a token for sugar plantation workers. "O" possibly "Oost". The medal or token has been retrieved during dredging works of the canals in the old city of former Batavia, presently Jakarta. So far unreported and therefore an extremely rare object. gVF
