A nice lot of bronzes from Sicily, Hieron II (c. 275-215 BC), all type obv. head of Poseidon left, wearing tainia and rev. ornamented trident head (cf. HGC 2, 1550) - c. 19 pieces from AE19 to AE22 in avg. F/VF, nice collection. Hieron II of Sicily was a ruler of Syracuse. Known for his military prowess, he expanded his influence in the Hellenistic world. Despite his success, his reign faced internal unrest. Hieron II played a role in the Second Punic War and formed alliances with Rome, leaving a complex legacy.
