1555 - Medal 'Overname van de regering door Philips II' by Gianpaolo Poggini (Van Loon 8, Pollard 338 (=electrotype !), Forrer p. 632) - Obv. Curassed, draped and collared bust of Philips II to the left; the signature in exergue is unclear but should read I.PAVL.POG.F. / Rev. Hercules in lions skin bears Atlas' globe - silver cast and retouched 42 mm 50,84 gram - XF - After casting, the fields were flattened and the contours accentuated - NB Philip took over Charles's burden, as Hercules took over Atlas's. Made in 1557. Poggini resided in Brussels between 1557 and 1559.
