Following the defeat of the Ottomans in 1916, Turkish 10, 20 & 40 para coins of Muhammad V and 40 para coins of Muhammad VI were countermarked ‘al-Hejaz’ in Arabic, defacing the sultan’s toughra, added (spurious) countermarked ‘al-Hejaz’ Indian AR rupees (3), AE British penny 1921 & BEIC AE ¼ anna 1833
