AR abbassi of 5 shahi (9.19 g.) of Persia i.n.o. Shah Abbas II, AD1642-66 Host coin mint: off, AH1072 (AD1661/62). Countermarked at Galle? with the Company’s monogram VOC/G. Despite that no countermarks of VOC/G of Galle are reported, this coin shows a clear G over the VOC-monogram. It may be either an error for VOC/C(olombo) or (more likely) a unreported trial for a VOC/G(alle) countermark applied during the early 1660’s at Galle. R4 Host coin aVF with flat parts, c/m VF.
