AV Cochin or Rasi-fanam ND (c.1666-1724) (Scho. 1249) - 0.38 gram - Obv.: Representing degenerated figure of the goddess Kali / rev.: An horizontal J, surmounted by two dots obliquely placed (a special characteristic of these fanams), below 13 dots in four lines 4,4,4,1. This fanam can be differentiated from the other fanams of the same type by being flat. They show a very careful engraving and even the stripes show European influence. The native Fanams, on the other hand, are somewhat cup-shaped, with bulging lines and a certain looseness in the design - XF
