A set of 12 Chinese blue and white plates decorated to the centre with a scene of two robed scholars with fans meeting beside a lake with a young attendant carrying a lantern, a willow overhead, rockwork in the foreground and pagoda in the distance, the cavetto with four cartouches containing beribboned scholarly objects against a diaper ground, the rim with a scrolling garland of peony, chrysanthemum and lily, China, Qianlong period (1736-1795).
